Project Runway Rundown: We Have a Winner
by The Copy Shop at November 20, 2009, 1:31 PM

Congrats to Irina for winning Project Runway Season 6! She managed to not only stay on top for a majority of the competitions, but also earned the title of The Bitchiest Season 6 Contestant. In a lackluster season, that had most of its loyal fans wishing for something (or someone) unbelievably exciting... such as Michael and Nina appearing weekly... I was only mildly entertained.
Between the lack of talent, lack of drama, and lack of NYC the season was missing all too much. I was especially disappointed by the lack of talent. Carol Hannah, Althea, and Irina were definitely the best out of the lot, I just wish they were challenged more. And please don't get me started on Michael and Nina missing a majority of the shows!
Thankfully, we had Tim Gunn, who showed us another side of his normally dapper demeanor. 'Mean Tim' got down to business and called designs a 'hot mess'. Sadly, Mean Tim's appearances were few and far between.
All in all, I'm happy for Irina. She deserved to win. I just wish she had more competition.

Are You Wearing The Sequined Blazer?
by Najwa Moses at November 20, 2009, 12:00 PM
All things shiny have taken center stage this fall -- think spiky metallic studs and shimmering satins and illuminating sequins -- especially around the holiday season. Romeo & Juliet Couture's black sequin poly jacket is a fantastic way to rock both the sequin and 'Boyfriend Blazer' trend.

Bluefly Celebrates Thanksgiving with Top Chef-Style Cook-Off
by Nana at November 19, 2009, 8:38 PM
You know it's on when your co-worker brings a full-on turkey to the employee cook-off. This afternoon, Bluefly employees got in the Thanksgiving spirit by getting competitive in our first ever "Top Fly" competition. There were empanadas; there were fish cakes; and, yes there was beer -- Chimay, to be specific -- a key ingredient in the Carbonade our CMO made that ended up winning the "savory" challenge on one floor.

What was left of the winning Carbonade...
Lest you think brown nosing was involved in our CMO's win, you should know it was all very Board of Elections over here. The dishes were labeled with numbers only and ballots were counted behind the closed door of our HR veep for no less than 15 minutes. Our Marketing Manager's banana pudding took the top spot in the "sweet category". Just a floor below, our Office Manager savored his savory victory -- his fish cakes were slamming! -- while our photographer won for her peanut butter pie.
Stay tuned for the "Top Fly" Masters Round. On December 10th, the winners will cook for the whole company.

Hermes 'Belt Inspired' Leather Bag: Fly or Bye?
by Najwa Moses at November 19, 2009, 4:00 PM
Art. Pure art is what this Hermes chocolate felt 'Camail' leather detail bag is. There's so much going on here, I'm not sure where to begin! I'm digging the felt inlay, the striped belt strap and the random red cut-out circle at the front.
Very nice...at least in my book.

Have Leggings Killed The Skinny Jean?
by Najwa Moses at November 19, 2009, 12:00 PM

We have roughly six weeks left in 2009 and I've worn skinny jeans only twice -- in fact that was the only time I wore jeans this year. I'm serious. The rest of the year has been spent in leggings (excluding a dress or two). Looking around the streets, stores, nightclubs and restaurants of NYC, I can see I'm not alone. Many fashionistas, have discovered that a legging can give you the same sleek contoured, leggy look as skinny jeans, but they're just so much more comfy!
I've recently made a vow to get back into my jeans for 2010, but with all these varieties in leggings... I'm not so sure.
You tell me...

Alicia Keys To Launch Jewelry Line
by Najwa Moses at November 19, 2009, 11:05 AM

Next week, the 12-time Grammy Award-winning songstress will introduce a jewelry collection called The Barber's Daughters. Founded with jewelry designer Gisèle Theriault, who she met backstage as the designer was selling pieces to Keys' bandmates, the collection is comprised of sterling silver and gemstone pieces, each inscribed with poetry and prayers of Masaru Emoto, the author of "The Hidden Messages in Water."
"I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me," said Keys. "I knew at that moment, for the first time, that through a whole other medium I would be able to spread inspiration and that's what got me started."
Keys said her mission is "to give people beautiful, unique pieces with messages that ignite them to find the best within" and that she has long wanted to get involved in accessories.
Well that rocks!
Funny, all the years that I spent selling my leather accessory collection at nightclubs, no Grammy Award winning artist linked up with me. Sigh...

It's a Plaid World
by Tanesha at November 18, 2009, 5:00 PM
The pairing of plaid and leatheris spreading faster than H1N1 'round here.

Seriously, from models at castings to our very own beloved "fit model" (aka Bluefly mannequin) Marcia, everyone's caught the fever. These quintessentially '90s staples even found their way into our latest Outerwear shoot in Williamsburg. Which, incidentally, is a great place to spot the trend in its natural habitat.

So there I was on set, dressing our model in a plaid shirt and leather jacket, being handed safety pins by my assistant (who was wearing plaid and leather (as seen next to Marcia -- pure coincidence!!), while curious onlookers walked by wearing... hold on for a shocker: plaid shirts and leather jackets! Trippy to say the least.
In case you fear looking like a mindless fashion follower, we've got plenty of options to suit everyone's style needs. Dressing like a model (or model's spawn), your favorite America's Most Stylish Blogger contestant, or Dylan Mckay is only a click away!

Robin Hood Continues To Lead The Season of Giving
by Najwa Moses at November 18, 2009, 4:00 PM
For the 2009 holiday season, Robin Hood, the nonprofit organization committed to fighting poverty in New York City and FreshDirect, one of the nation's leading online gourmet food providers and grocery delivery services, are coming
together to help feed 120,000 New Yorkers in need.
"Every year as the holidays approach, many New Yorkers worry about making ends meet - and that's especially true this year," says Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
A $50 donation made via www.FreshDirect.com/RobinHood will feed a family of eight with a turkey dinner and all the fixings, delivered by FreshDirect to community organizations funded by Robin Hood throughout the five boroughs.
In the past Robin Hood has teamed up with Lucky Shops among others.

A Casualista's Holiday Wish List
by The Copy Shop at November 18, 2009, 12:50 PM
Have you seen our 'Name That Fashionista' holiday gift guide? From my ever-growing sneaker collection to wearing what seems to be the same jeans and t-shirt everyday, I am an unapologetic Casualista. But people tend to forget that I am also an accessories addict. Sure, a nice pair of worn-in jeans may be my daily uniform, but it's the extra bits and pieces that keep me from looking like a wandering hobo. Instead of adding another comfy tee and dark denim to my holiday wish list, this Casualista is craving cute winter accessories. Gloves! And scarves! And hats! Oh my!
So in the midst of wondering what to get my friends and family for the festive season, I am hoping I will be opening boxes of Portolano gloves and Kashmere wraps this Christmas. And if there are a few basic t-shirts in the mix, I am not one to complain.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards: Who, What, Wear
by Najwa Moses at November 18, 2009, 12:00 PM
I'm still wiping up the drool caused by the smorgasbord of titillating fashion, that arrived on the Red Carpet at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards the other night. Putting aside the super big names like Anna Wintour, Nicole Kidman, Diane von Furstenberg, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Derek Lam, Doo-Ri Chung, Chanel Iman, Jason Wu, Tracey Reese, Rachel Roy, Sophie Buhai and Georgina Chapman; the fashion on fashion's biggest stars was just so darn yummy.
Frozen florals flung onto mini rompers paired with Boyfriend Blazers, '80s retro rainbow sequined jackets, colorblocked silk wrap dresses, ethnic printed heavy silk skirts paired with Rocker leather jackets, tomato red cropped satin mini dresses choking with 3-D floral design, gents in velvet blazers and satin skinny pants and of course Vampire glam ruled quite heavily.
However my fave photo of the night is this one of Anna and Diane, simply because they look so darn happy, and they both are rocking white pumps deep into November.
Go girls!
Fabsugar has all of the looks from the evening.

Discover & Shop New Trends In The Black Mini Skirt

Ahhh... Next to the LBD, the black mini skirt is a fashionista's BFF. As you get ready for the holiday season and all the subsequent parties, this year's black minis are a recession-friendly way to get on trend. Take style note that sequins, layered ruffles, latex, and big bows are the latest looks...
