The Prada Group's been busy collecting big-name acquisitions Jil Sander and Helmut Lang, but hasn't done the best job of keeping these brand-name designers happy. Jil Sander jumped ship (twice in the past five years) citing a lack of respect from the Italian couture giant, and Helmut Lang's offices will close soon, British Vogue reports. A bit of mystery: no one seems to know who created Helmut Lang's spring 2005 collection. However, some say it was Prada and others say it was poorly made.
"The stuff is made very cheaply now, and it falls apart," says another well-dressed wag. "It's one thing to pay $800 for an intentionally ripped shirt; now it just does it by itself."
