Rocks on Steroids

rock.jpgEverybody's got an enormous, clowny, faux gemstone to flaunt these days. The crystals on Chanel's satin and alligator sandals (see photo) look like they belong on an engagement ring for Godzilla's girlfriend. Spanish designer Pedro Garcia took a Birkenstock sandal sole and stuck a giant gem between the toe -- perfect for the hippie debutante in your life. Marc Jacobs kick-started the trend by slapping a gigantic 189.5-carat pink kunzite ring onto Sarah Jessica Parker at a United Cancer Front benefit last fall. The $125,000 bling ring was auctioned at the fundraiser to raise money -- or maybe Parker got tired of lugging it around.

I came across this post while searching for the perfect "gigantic" ring. I LOVE the trend of huge jewelry. I've entertained the idea of ponying up to get a real one - one that I'll keep and love forever. But, I've come to the realization - some of the designs - while cool now - aren't exactly timeless. I have decided that rather than spending thousands on rings like the celebs, there are tons of faux jewelers out there who make pretty convincing fakes. I've bought a few items from www.inspiredsilver.com, which seems to have the latest styles first. I love this ring: http://www.inspiredsilver.com/?fa=site.showproduct&product_id=1174&product_category_id=3&page=1 -- very Fred Leighton!
