Next week, several hundred hopeful designers will line up at dawn outside Henri Bendel's back entrance and wait hours for the chance to show their wares to buyers at the department store's "Open See" new designer competition. A lucky and talented few may even hit the jackpot and be awarded a contract as Anna Sui and Todd Oldham once did. Those who get turned away early enough can always have breakfast at Tiffany's across the street before heading back to the drawing board.
