Strike Style

workinggirl.jpgThe New York Times reminds us that when transit workers strike, fashion suffers, too. Indeed, it was the 1980 transit strike that spawned the power suit-and-running shoe fashion faux pas (ala Melanie Griffith in Working Girl) that still haunts city streets 25 years later. Now that it's over, Transit Strike 2005 still threatens to leave us with "the fashion equivalent of a mullet" says designer Cynthia Rowley. "It's party on top, all business and practical on the bottom."
