Blue Collar Couture
Industrial blue tarps that covered much of post-Katrina New Orleans shimmered in the runway glow last week when the Big Easy's legendary Antoine's eatery hosted a blue tarp fashion show to benefit America's Wetlands Foundation. In looks that The Washington Post described as part-Christo, part-Home Depot, local models swished down the catwalk with a pre-Mardi Gras joie de vivre that helped to lift the hurricane blues.

It's a Cinch
While the return of the waist is a joy for some (Victorian heroines, obi-waisted kimono lovers, Lanvin, pictured), it's a tragedy for those without the right figure. But Stella magazine tells you how to get through the trend while still looking cute, including comforting words from the immortal Coco Chanel: "Women must be able to move, to get into a car."

Fresh Talent
Leave it to the JC Report to shed some light on talented designers left unprofiled by Vogue and W. Some even call designer Peter Soronen a "young Valentino." With prodding from knowing stylists, Sarah Jessica Parker and Reese Witherspoon have worn his stuff on the red carpet. "The woman I have in mind when I design is one who likes a little adventure," Soronen said. "She wants to look fantastic at a great party and make it seem effortless."

Watch-n-Wear
The St. Louis Dispatch is hot on the trail of an age-old trend -- watch-n-wear. Those unfamiliar with the term itself will still recognize the phenomenon -- biting your style from the movies. And as New York magazine's latest Lookbook lady can attest, watch-n-wear is alive and well. "I saw that movie The New World..." says jeans designer Ai Ly. Not Too Shabby Chic
Last night the City Opera Thrift Shop -- New York's Daily News calls it 'The Bergdorf of bargain haunts' -- hosted its spring preview of second-hand goodies. For an entry fee of $10, thrifty shoppers were treated to racks crammed with Marc and Dior at prices generally reserved for H&M and Target. "Because of our reputation for having a fashion edge," shop manager Jay Thompson told the Daily News, "Many of the fashionistas who shop at the store [Parker Posey and Chloe Sevigny's names dropped here] also donate to us." Proceeds support the New York City Opera and contribute to the creation and upkeep of those fab costumes.

Welcome to the Jungle
Could it be that Prada is going nuts? "I'm tired of being so sweet," Miuccia Prada told Style.com during Milan's fashion week, where gruff animal prints and tough looks replaced the ladylike sweetness we've all come to expect. The last official challenge of this season's "Project Runway" ended in one big, boring bitch-fest. Chloe's 40s-inspired silver gown was "puckering" and "ill-fitting;" Daniel's navy dress was "borderline boring," and Satino's gold design looked like "an explosion in a sequin factory." Project Sneak Preview
Flypaper snagged a backstage pass to this morning's Project Runway Fashion Week finale. Klum & Co. were savvy enough to have all four remaining designers do a show, although only three make this week's cut. So, I may not have the juiciest detail of all -- who's out, who's in -- but I did get a sneak peek at next, next week.
Daniel -- part old-school Ralph Lauren, fit for your mother (navy, cream, chocolate, brocade) and part gorgeously made modern dresses, with original detailing, like small breastplates and arched piping on the back.
Kara -- the woman next to me proclaimed, "Sooo Urban Outfitters." Me, I was thinking Benetton, circa 1996. Lots of hot pink, slouchy menswear, a slight Nordic vibe, and utterly perplexing rag hats everywhere you looked.
Chloe -- muted mauves, greens, blues, and other jewel tones, rich, satiny fabrics, empire waists, pleated hems, and billowing sleeves, reminiscent of Stella McCartney a few years ago, but with a whiff of 40s glamour. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes not, and somehow really repetitive.
Santino -- surprisingly wearable and well-made, aside from one truly hideous Attila-the-Hun-inspired number. The same muted tones as Chloe, with cameos from mint and blood red, but less structure, more flowing, and the most beautiful final dress of all, in floaty, pleated chiffon
Who's in? Honestly, it's anyone's guess. My money -- though I love to hate him -- is on Santino.

The Real Truth
Fact: heart disease is the #2 cause of death of American women. Fact: this is what non-models look like on the runway. From left to right, Fergie, Eartha Kitt and Lindsay Lohan walked the "Heart Truth" all-red celebrity runway show.

Pay More, Pay Less
Laura Poretzky's fall 2006-07 Abaete line was lookin' good -- mellow browns paired with rich reds, silky tunic-like dresses with flat bows. And they all look ready to roll with the sexy, yet work-friendly shoes she's designed with Payless to bring the discount shoe store aboard the designer collaboration bandwagon. What's That Under Your Clothes?
Leaving not a scrap for the imagination, actress Teri Hatcher wore a sheer plum-toned gown by Jean Paul Gaultier to last night's Grammy awards. "I didn't want anybody to have to wonder if I wore underwear or not," she said. [via the Miami Herald]

Let's Party
Nanette Lepore's fall 2006-07 show was lovely, filled with interesting necklines -- from draped to twisted to keyhole -- and sexy silky variations on red, plum and pink. The afterparty, however, was not so hot. "This party is so bad," one woman told a New York mag reporter, "I just booty-texted every single guy in my phone."

All White
Marc Jacobs seems to have the same taste in ladies as musician Jack White of the White Stripes. White's former wife, Meg, is the star of Jacobs' latest ad campaign, while White's current squeeze, the very pregnant Karen Elson, opened his fall 2006-07 runway show. I think Meg got the better outfit. [via fashionologie and Vogue.com]

Tom's Hollywood
Tom Ford's lecherous presence on the Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair may be unwelcome to some, but some have saved their anger for poor ol' naked Scarlett Johansson. "It is a slippery slope from sheer panties in an independent film to laying doggo, $#@! bared on the cover of the King of all Glossies," comments Ron M. on Defamer.
