Last night the City Opera Thrift Shop -- New York's Daily News calls it 'The Bergdorf of bargain haunts' -- hosted its spring preview of second-hand goodies. For an entry fee of $10, thrifty shoppers were treated to racks crammed with Marc and Dior at prices generally reserved for H&M and Target. "Because of our reputation for having a fashion edge," shop manager Jay Thompson told the Daily News, "Many of the fashionistas who shop at the store [Parker Posey and Chloe Sevigny's names dropped here] also donate to us." Proceeds support the New York City Opera and contribute to the creation and upkeep of those fab costumes.

I was so hot for a coat from there back in 2001 -- camel-colored with an assymetrical row of giant buttons. I visited it about five times until someone else bought it and took it away from me. Plenty of good thrift all over 23rd Street: Housing Works has some great stuff, too.
