While Black Style Now features cool artifacts like an old Diana Ross spread from the New York Times and a video of Andy Warhol muse Donyale Luna, the exhibit focuses mostly on the hip hop styles of the 80s 'til now. Seeing LL Cool J's old Kangol, Triple Fat Goose jackets and the Phat-Roca-Sean-John pieces of today behind museum ropes is a thrill, but some fashionistas are huffing that it's predictable at the expense of serious black designers including Tracy Reese, Patrick Robinson or Ozwald Boateng. Now that I think about it, if any black designers besides Diddy were there at opening night, I sure didn't see them.
