Spain has stunned the fashion world by banning too-thin models at Madrid's fashion week. The government says it's duty-bound to project a healthy body image, so from now on, a medic will be on hand to measure girls' body mass index. Based on new restrictions, 30 percent of last year's models wouldn't make the cut, including top Spanish model Esther Canadas, pictured. Will it catch on among models in New York? After all, our country invented "super-size."

i know how bad it sounds to say this, but designer clothes hang better on skinny girls like that. fashion is not about reality, it's all a fantasy. we don't want reality on the runway.
