Cosplay Couture

cosplayvamp.jpgYou won't hear about it from Heidi Klum, but the results of CosplayLab's October look-alike contest are in and Vampire Hunter Shuki took first place with an outfit that would make John Galliano weep. Cosplayers, Japanese nerds who go to anime conventions dressed as their favorite characters, are as devoted to simulating their cartoon heroes as Trekkies are to speaking perfect Klingon. With their knack for producing garments that are complicated, sexy and weird, it can't be long before Cosplayers start getting snatched up by savvy fashion overlords.

I wonder how would you like these.... They are Taiwanese, not Japanese, though.

All of the above are their own original creations, not reinterpretation/ inmitation of any anime character's dress or costume. They also did all the makeup and hair themselves. Photos were shot by amateur photographer friends.

Both Karum and Akuna majored in fashion.

Besides cosplay, BJDs (Ball-Joint Dolls) are another emerging trend. The best dolls are from Korea. These are much larger than Barbies. (Size varies by company and series.) Doll owners can change doll's makeup and hair and play dress up with them.

This is my fav BJD site: "The Malicious Angel's Workshop"
Site owner does BJD makeup for people during summer. All doll costumes done by site owner.
