State of the Speaker

pelosi-state-of-the-union.jpgWhile Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's appearance at the State of the Union address was monumental because she's the first woman to be third in line for president, lots of media focused on, well, her appearance. One writer notes how Pelosi and her Armani may be ushering in a "less-dowdy" femininity previously unseen in D.C., while the New York Times' note of her change from a suit in beige to green set off a mini-firestorm. Sure it's probably a bit sexist to focus on what the ladies on the Hill wear, but it's kinda fair fashion game: men have nothing to work with but dark suits and ties.
