Don't Mess With Texas

1985b.jpgAll I thought I knew about the Lone Star State was wrong. In "Dressin' Texan," New Yorker reporter Patricia Marx lays out the rules of fashion in the Houston/Dallas area, perhaps the most important of which are "Lesson No. 1: When in Texas, do not dress down" and "Lesson No. 5: The best place to shop in Texas is the closet of someone who is planning to move from a 9,000 sq. ft. home to a 3,500 sq. ft. apartment." And as Dana Goodyear found out in her profile of Cameron Silver, vintage couture guru and founder of the L.A.-based vintage shop Decades, Texas is chock full of the best and most expensive vintage frocks money can buy. Who knew the true home of couture is not Paris or Milan, but Houston, baby? And don't you forget it.
