Gucci Stalks Puma

News that the company that owns Gucci is looking to buy sneaker emporium Puma is driven as much by street style as well as financial smarts. The chairman of PPR -- which owns YSL, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen as well as Gucci -- told WWD the offer to buy Puma was inspired by the way people mix and match high and low, pairing sneakers with say, a fabulously expensive handbag by a PPR property. Of course it doesn't hurt that Alexander McQueen and Puma have already worked together.
