To Wear or to Admire?

It's rare for a Marc by Marc show to feel less interesting than the Marc Jacobs show, but this year, Marc Jacobs disheveled looks were far more interesting than the retro-stewardess outfits seen on the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2008 runways. Of course we have to be grateful to Marc by Marc for being more wearable than inspirational. Jacobs pulled off the perfect coup -- his Marc Jacobs collection will be lauded by editors and featured prominently in fashion magazines as examples of daring, yet wearable art. And the rest of us poor schlubs, who can't quite get away with wearing our underwear outside our dresses and shoes that look like ankle injuries waiting to happen, can dress in "safe" and "boring" Marc by Marc. Sometimes art is best left hanging in the closet.
