Who says the fashion industry encourages starvation? It was "while enjoying a box of my favorite ladurée macaroons," Monique Lhuillier wrote in the press notes for her spring collection, that the vanilla, mint, latte, pistachio and butterscotch palette "flash[ed] before my eyes." There were a few heavy notes in the collection which Lhuillier presented this morning at Bryant Park's Promenade: a ruffled tweed jacket that packed on unneccesary weight to a frothy Chantilly lace cocktail dress and a high-waisted tweed skirt that swallowed a gorgeous silk tulle bustier. But thanks to the majority of the collection -- torso-cinching bodices with beautiful asymmetrical draping detail, and full skirts that seemed to hold their breath in bubble shapes below the hips before exhaling in soft draped hems -- anyone wearing the designer's spring '08 styles can enjoy a few macaroons too.
