The accessories designer over at Zara must be pretty embarrassed after a certain handbag design was pulled because it featured a swastika in the fabric, along with flowers, animals and bicycles. Um, one of these things is not like the other? [via BBC]

A swastika has a more ancient meaning in Asia and is associated with Buddhism. I'm sure the makers of the bags intended that meaning and not the meaning that is associated with the swastika in the west.

You're quite right, it's associated with many cultures, including Buddhism and Hinduism, but of course the Nazi appropriation has kind of ruined the symbol's meaning overall. The Nazi swastika is always right-facing while versions from other cultures can face either right or left. Sadly, the one on the bag is right facing.
