When I Grow Up...

...can I be a little bit of every woman that blessed the stage at tonight's Glamour Women of the Year Awards?

CBS Chief Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan, Journalist/Author/Activist Mariane Pearl, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, anchorwoman Diane Sawyer, model/actress Brooke Shields and so many more of my heroines were in the house at Avery Fisher Hall in Manhattan's Lincoln Center to give or receive Glamour's red trophies of abstract art and I was as inspired by the honorees as I was the presenters and guests. Seriously, when I grow up:

I want Donna Karan's clout.

She's a designer, but the respect she's earned from her talent, hard work, and success has transcended fashion to the world of medical research. Inspired by Eastern philosophy and medicine, Karan -- who lost her business partner and husband of 17 years to cancer -- is working with Manhattan's Beth Israel Medical Center to bring a more holistic approach to healing. (I also want Donna's fur coat, but that's another story...)

I want Nancy Pelosi's introduction.

I am so late, but Stephen Colbert's speech made me want to On Demand the 'Daily Show'. He's brilliant!

I want these former child soldiers' forgiving spirit.

Only God knows the magnitude of what Maurine Akello, Jennifer Achora, Nighty Acheng, Milly Ayuma, Sara Ayero and countless others suffered when they were kidnapped as children from their village in Uganda and forced into the Lord's Resistance Army as slave wives and soldiers. But instead of dwelling on their captivity, these woman are freeing minds and hearts with Empowering Hands, an NGO they founded that supports newly freed abductees with counseling, small business loans, scholarships and more.

I wanna call Taye Diggs, Eric Dane and James Pickens, Jr. work buddies.

How lucky is Grey's Anatomy creator, Shonda Rhimes that these hotties call her "boss"?

I want Brooke Shields' nine lives.

Pictured here with actress Rashida Jones, Brooke, 42, has gone from controversial child actress to iconic teen model to Princeton grad to budding comic actress to wife, mother and author. (I wouldn't mind having Quincy Jones on speed dial either.)

I want Toni Morrison's energy.

The woman is 76 years old and after penning more than 10 novels and essays, and winning the Pulitzer and the Nobel for her incisive, literary look at race, class and gender, the professor is at work on her next novel.

I want Narciso Rodriguez on my guest list.

If we were on it like that, maybe he'd give me a free dress.

Colbert's show is "the Colbert Report". The Daily Show is with Jon Stewart...he's a much funnier man, albeit shorter in stature.
