Comme des Garcons Designs for Team USA

Sure, the Team USA opening ceremony uniforms, designed by Ralph Lauren, looked cute and smart. But I gotta side with LA Times style writer Booth Moore here: What was up with those honkingly large Polo logos? Is designing an Olympic uniform not advertisement enough for Mr. Lauren? We prefer the M.O. of Rei Kawakubo for
Comme des Garcons. The iconic designer was quietly behind the slick new stars-and-stripes design of those groundbreaking Speedo LZR Racer suits that have less drag (and that swimmers have broken a freakish number of world records wearing). Kawakubo wanted to work with the calligraphy that was on the suit: "kokoru" stands for heart, spirit, and mind. Via Speedo, Kawakubo states: "I was interested in expressing the energy and the power that comes from the spirit, embodied in the meaning of the calligraphy, together with the will to win for one's country, symbolized by the iconic flag of the USA. I am very honored and proud that Team USA will be performing in the pool in Beijing with this strong creative design." And looking fantastic.
