Hard times have traditionally given birth to the coolest fashion trends. According to FashionEra.com, During World War I, designers introduced military jackets for women while ladies who lunched started wearing shorter skirts; those floor-length Edwardian jobs just wouldn't do anymore as those who had the money left the house to volunteer and those who didn't had to work. Working women started wearing trousers too. At the height of World War II, wedge heels were born when rations on leather meant shoe makers had to manufacture soles from other materials. In the '60s, as the Civil Rights movement and Sexual Revolution induced tectonic shifts in American society, minidresses with flat boots became the hipster uniform of the day as African and Latin American-inspired prints and fashions like caftans and ponchos became popular. Again, when '80s excesses led to the recession of the early '90s, Calvin Klein struck a minimalist chord that didn't lose its grip on fashion till the late '90s when Marc Jacobs hit the scene with grunge. Now that we're in pretty bad economic straits, what do you think will become our sartorial silver lining?

I think designers will create unisex pieces but I also think folks will become more DIY though they have already with the influence of the 80s return. Another great post Nan:)
