Our criteria were looks that weren't the predictable parade of borderline bridal gowns; dresses that were distinct, yet not so edgy, they didn't photograph well. That said, my usual faves -- Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway didn't do it for me. Their dresses were definitely not the worst, but both were a bit of a snore.
January Jones' dress is my fave of the night. Love the flash-catching jewel tone and the pin tuck detailing. It's age-appropriate and not the same ol' same ol'. And guess what? We have a Marc Bouwer GlamIt! dress just like it.

Simple, elegant and edgy. Loving it.
Evan Rachel Wood was a stunner too. Totally loved The Wrestler star's fresh take on the flapper dress.
Kate Beckinsale always looks amazing and she didn't disappoint with this creamy hourglass dress.
Melissa George's (HBO's "In Treatment") dress is reminiscent of the gown Julia Roberts won the Oscar for Erin Brockovich in. The crisp black piping and floral detailing at the bodice looks sharp against the white and creates a killer silhouette.
I usually don't like overly sexy on the Red Carpet, but Jennifer Lopez somehow manages to make a neckline down to her belly button look classic. Meanwhile, hot mess alert: Are those sequins on Marc's shoes? Or are they patent?
Comments
Hey Nan. I think Marc's shoes are patent, but either way they look more appropriate for a zoot suit.
Loved Melissa George's dress. And also January Jones', the first dress.
