Gossip Girl: Designer Couples

Because "Chanessa" sounds so much better than "VaNate-sa"...

I've been complaining about the sleepy storylines Vanessa and Nate have had me yawning through earlier in the season, but the writers solved that problem with some good ol' fashioned hook-ups. When a freshly dumped Vanessa witnessed the rebirth of "Warchibald" for herself (Blair and Nate lightly stroking each other at Jenny's Sour 16th Birthday Bash), she and Chuck responded in kind -- forming "Chanessa" with a performance kiss. Chuck and Vanessa being the method actors they are, ended up in bed later that night -- the same bed, mind you, Nate refused to sleep with Blair on out of guilt for lying to Vanessa about his rekindled romance with B.

Meanwhile, "Lufus" were having their own relationship drama. After Rufus found out Yale was not giving Dan any financial aid, Lily suggested he sell his loft (in this economy!!) and move into her Upper East Side digs. This led to a Brooklyn vs. Manhattan smackdown. Jenny and Dan insisted they didn't want to "change" -- part of the reason Jenny's 16th birthday party went from the sweet night she envisioned -- scarfing down Rufus' chili and playing boardgames with her brother, Serena, Eric and his boyfriend -- to sour.

Serena, meaning well (and at the urging of her model/socialite friend, Poppy), threw Jenny a party made for a Style.com photo gallery -- complete with Patrick McMullan's roving lens -- at her mother's swank apartment. Completely frustrated that her birthday was taken over by the Mean Girls, J lashed out a la Chanessa and invited Gossip Girl's entire distribution list to her party. It ended up being a mess -- Lily's closet was looted, and the pricey paintings Bart bought her were left hanging lopsided on the walls -- a mess that spilled into Lufus' bridge and tunnel romance. What would their Brookhattan coupling mean for their children?

Serena did not stick around to find out the answer. Instead she packed a rolling suitcase and headed to Poppy's hotel where she, Poppy, and Poppy's boyfriend, Gabriel got set to jet to Spain. Stay tuned for Sabriel...

Oh, and Warchibald are so on. Nate explained his refusal to bed Blair as not wanting to do it "that way." They sealed their one-name status with a romantic kiss in the park under the snow that didn't look like a performance at all.
