Beyonce stoked it with the metallic curtain sunglasses she wore in the opening sequence of her "Diva" video, and the "out there" sunglasses trend continues between the pages of high fashion magazines. This month's Arise Magazine -- which put on one of the biggest shows during NYC Fashion Week -- featured these Hussein Chalayan acrylic mold spectacles that might as well be called wearable face art as they don't appear to even contain lenses.

I LOVE 'em, but since they don't appear to block UVs, not to mention the fact that they're "priced upon request," the trend takeaway for those of us who aren't shooting a music video or an editorial spread is: go for sunglasses with some sort of distinctive feature.

Here are 3 Things To Look For when you're hunting for on-trend shades:

1. Shape. Round beatnik shapes, like the white-rimmed Christian Dior shades below, are really trending right now.

2. Frame. These Gucci wrap frames (above) and the bracket rim Stella McCartney sunglasses (below) are just one example of the printed, cut-out, twisted, and chain frames nicely setting off tinted lenses.

3. Color. Lenses usually come in black or grey, but why not try cream, like theTom Ford shades pictured above, or the "cherry bomb ombre" of these Oliver Peoples sunglasses?

“ Rihanna had planned to wear thigh-high, lace-up Louis Vuitton boots, but Madonna wanted to wear them, and insisted that nobody else could be seen or photographed in them.”
