How Do You Feel About Colorful Suits?

The spring 2010 men's shows presented multiple variations on the traditional suit. Tons of designers showed short pants, and/or pegged trousers and bunched up jacket sleeves for a "boyfriend" effect. Others played with jacket lengths presenting everything from zoot-lengths to cropped styles or sliced off the sleeves altogether creating an oversized tunic effect vaguely reminiscent of men's African robes.

Raf Simons implied a bondage theme changing the suit shape we're used to by cinching jacket waists with belts. Calvin Klein played with sheer fabrics pairing see-through shirts with opaque jackets, while Z Zegna went crazy with stripes complete with mad hatter-esque top hats. But the most interesting execution to me were the Italian Ice colored suits that popped in the Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, C.P. Company, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino, and Paul Smith shows. Head-to-toe shades of Blue Gelati, Watermelon, Cherry, and Lemon Ice were surprisingly good looks. Do you agree?

Hmm. While I feel bad that formal menswear is usually limited to neutrals, these looks just aren't doing it for me. A bit too loud! I think ties and shirts are the place to get a little bit of a color - but head to toe like this looks kind of ridiculous. I just can't imagine it off the runway!
