'NYC Prep': School's Back in Session

Although it is only the third week of July and the weather has yet to turn blistering hot, I am already catching a glimpse of back-to-school commercials! Say it ain't so!

I still get mild anxiety attacks during this time of year, despite the fact that I haven't been in school since 2003. Just reminiscing about that first crucial week during September, where everything from your clothes to your hair to even your backpack was open to criticism from fellow classmates sends me into a fetal position. And now that Bravo is airing NYC Prep, I can reminisce about the ultra-privileged snobs roaming the hallways too. Thanks, Bravo!

But no matter how strongly I would like to erase my high school experience from my mind, I cannot deny the fashion choices of the adult-like teenagers on the show. So I am going to put the past in the past and take a fashion cue from these preppy students for the upcoming fall season.

A crisp L.A.M.B. white button-down shirt and a laid-back boyfriend blazer by Priorities look polished when paired with classic wide leg pants by Michael Kors. Add a tartan tie courtesy of Hickey Freeman for a much-needed touch of plaid minus the ubiquitous schoolgirl skirt and bring the entire look together with a lemon yellow Fendi belt for a pop of color. And voila! As fast as you can say '10 year reunion', you have a perfect outfit for a career woman no longer re-living her dreaded high school days.
