The Paris Couture Shows: All the Looks We're Stuck On
by Nana at July 10, 2009, 2:57 PM
For the most part, couture designers drank the '80s kool-aid presenting styles reminiscent of Madonna circa Desperately Seeking Susan, Dynasty's Alexis Colby, and hip-hop-inspired brass knuckle rings. We're not complaining.
2009 has to be the Year of the Coat. From the New York shows to the ready-to-wear Paris runways, coats stole the show whether they were made of fur, festooned with military details, printed or just twists on a classic. At the couture shows in Paris, designers upped the ante with intricate beadwork, feathers and sequins. 3. KILLER ACCESSORIES
The accessories were off the meter! While Chanel made lace tights and Madonna gloves for the socialista set, Christian Dior (right) presented ostentatious hats literally brimming with feathers as well as a couture nod to the '80s style hat Dynasty's Alexis often rocked. You know, the one with the netting springing from the cap over the face so only red red lips and kohl-lined eyes show through. Hats were also big at Christian Lacroix, for whom this may be the last collection due to financial woes. Meanwhile Givenchy (left) presented oversized, fight club-ready rings and bracelets. Chunky necklaces and big bows were also prolific.
