Video: The Making of a Chanel Haute Couture Outfit

by Najwa Moses at July 10, 2009, 10:00 AM

The Cut blog was lucky enough to be allowed inside Chanel's couture house to capture the delicate and pain-staking process of creating couture clothing. The clip shows a seamstress turning a Karl Lagerfeld sketch into a finished dress and jacket with a five-figure price tag. The three-part footage shows Madame Jacqueline, the atelier tailleur, working on the toile of the jacket; Madame Cécile, the atelier flou, goes over the toile of the dress to make sure it's perfect, then each sequin is painstakingly sewn on by hand at the Maison Lesage. Every inch of piping and each seam is hand-pinned.

And you thought your job was hard (lol).
