Project Runway Rundown: And Baby Makes Episode 2

In the words of Season 4 runner-up, Daniel Vosovic, last night's episode was a bit of a "mind f@!k" as the now-pregnant Heidi Klum introduced the then-pregnant Rebecca Romijn to the contestants and challenged them to create a look that would celebrate the pregnant woman's curves. Although Heidi warned the designers that (with Monique Lhuillier filling in for Michael Kors) the judging panel had all been preggers before and would take the resulting designs a little more personally, the majority of designers went for over-the-top drama strapping water's-about-to-break, watermelon-sized baby bumps onto their models (because that's what every pregnant woman looks like!). That said, aside from the messy feather-trimmed "bird's nest" Malvin Vien created (which earned him an "I'm sorry you're out" kiss from Heidi), and the micro-mini shorts Mitchell sent down the runway, the designers did their respective things. Shirin Askari's drape neck dress with origami pleating and matching top coat (pictured above) was totally deserved to win, while Althea's sleek jersey maxi dress, Irina's flirty aqua frock, and Louise's tiered crimson minidress definitely deserved honorable mention.

But perhaps most worth mentioning - or rather questioning: what the hell is Mitchell (see his almost losing look below) still doing here?

Quote of the Day

“Well, I, uh - I read in The New York Times this week that I'm an ice queen, I'm the Sun King, I'm an alien fleeing from District 9 and I'm a dominatrix. So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space.”
