It was afro-luxe at Bryant Park's Tents as designers Lisa (just Lisa), who presented the brand Jewel, Tiffany Amber, Eric Raisina, and David Tlale each sent collections that re-imagined traditional African chic. The popping prints Africa is known for were three-dimensionalized in the Jewel collection which glittered with sequins and leather discs. Tifany Amber who showed after Jewel, continued the print story by layering colored lace over alternate color fabrics in chic, curve-skimming dresses. Amber updated the caftan too, sassing it up with strategically-placed cut-outs, batwings, and split shoulders. Raisina's technical skill raised the bar. His collection featured intricate shirring, fringe-trimmed frocks, and prints that tricked the eye. Was it tie-dye or snake print? David Tlale closed the group show with a vampy collection of dramatic gowns that the roaring, celeb-studded crowd more than approved of. Project Runway alum, Korto Momolu, singer Amerie, Sean Paul, Damon Dash, and former model and models' advocate Bethann Hardison were front row, while models Tyson Beckford (whom Bethann managed for many years), Oluchi Onweagba (wife of designer Luca Orlandi), and rising stars Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss, Arlenis Sosa, and Sessilee Lopez stalked the runway. So far, the most exciting show of the season -- and we've got 5 days to go!
