Ralph Rucci, who added the Japanese word "Chado" to the name of his label in homage to the disciplined art of the Japanese tea ceremony, presented an inspired and inspiring collection featuring painstaking craftsmanship, and re-imagined silhouettes. While hand-cut chiffon paillettes fluttered over a chic little dress, ladders of embroidered "vertebrae" ran along the fronts and backs of many of the gowns. There was tons of sexy going on at the backs of several of the pieces. Sheer inserts on dresses, and intricate twists and tucks on jackets added surprise and whimsy to sharply cut jackets. Speaking of jackets, the traditional mandarin topper was remixed, as was the iconic skinny black pantsuit which he opened the show with. Sleek and svelte, it was hard to believe it was made out of mohair. Perhaps the coolest thing about this collection was the fact that it was ageless. The sheer cut-outs gave sensible knee-length dresses tons of attitude, while sprays of sequins on evening gowns, and printed caftans gave the collection trend cred. I am so in. What about you?

Quote of the Day

“Well, I, uh - I read in The New York Times this week that I'm an ice queen, I'm the Sun King, I'm an alien fleeing from District 9 and I'm a dominatrix. So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space.”
