Emmy Awards Fashion Watch: LOVED These Dressesby Nana at September 21, 2009, 6:24 PMThere was a lot of color at the Emmy's last night -- Gossip Girl's Blake Lively in red, Sarah Silverman and Christina Applegate in electric blue, Toni Collette in coral, Vanessa Williams in teal -- and there was the usual spray of beading and sequins, but our favorite dresses of the night were more quiet in color, saving the statement for the silhouette. "Power shoulders", full skirts, and corseted tops had my vote. Which star had your vote? Drew Barrymore basically owns the patent on this kind of confectionary chic. The blushing color and full cotton candy skirt are all working for her.
Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter is killing it in this beaded one-shoulder diva gown. The drop earrings, costume ring, and blinging cuffs she chose to accessorize it with are spot-on too.
In the past, Blake Lively has gone for a Homecoming Queen aesthetic on the red carpet -- big tousled blonde waves, prom dress silhouettes -- but last night, she scaled back, and slicked back, wearing a scarlet gown with a navel-baring decollatage and thigh-high slit on the red carpet; then changed into this sequins bold shoulder mini for HBO's Emmy After-Party. The red dress was a bit Dallas for my taste, but this rocking mini feels more age-appropriate and fashion forward. What do you think?
High-fashion isn't always photogenic, but as far as I'm concerned, Mad Men's January Jones has mastered the art of choosing the high-fashion looks that look amazing on the red carpet and in pictures. LOVE the sharp angles of the top balanced with the gown's fluid skirt.
Maybe it's just her amazing bronze coloring, but Entourage star, Emmanuelle Chriqui looks stunning in this belted halter which she wore to HBO's Emmy After-Party.
