If there was any doubt the recession is ebbing, Tommy Hilfiger's pre-show opening of his 5th Avenue flagship store erased it. Jammed with beautiful, and beautifully dressed, big name celebrities -- Mary Louise Parker, Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley, and Russell Simmons, to name a few -- servers passed lobster, caviar, and pigs-in-the-blanket on black trays, as suited hotties tended separate bars on all six floors of the store, and pushcarts of ice cold Peroni beers were stationed throughout the sprawling shopping destination.
The decadence followed in Hilfiger's spring 2010 show. The Rat Pack-reminiscent, Guys and Dolls-evocative collection presented sleek column dresses, crisp Martha's Vineyard-ready basics, collegiate blazers and khakis, and tuxedos. More of the same from the designer committed to a vision of classic and luxe Americana.
