Usually, we focus on the wearable trends, but between Lady Gaga's cryptic (and bleeding) get-ups, Pink wearing her heart on her boob as she flipped and flew through the air performing her hit sober, and the skin print jumpsuit Kanye's gf Amber Rose wore, last night's VMAs were more about the costumes than the mini dresses and sequins-sprinkled frocks Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Keri Hilson rocked on the red carpet. That said, there are still sartorial ideas to be gleaned from the costumes. Take note:
1. AMBER ROSE'S SKIN PRINT JUMPSUIT
If you've been wondering how to rock the snake print legging trend, take a cue from Amber Rose. Go bold with oversize jewelry -- think a "collar" necklace, cocktail ring, and a badass cuff like this Viktoria Hayman stretch bracelet.
2. BEYONCE'S "PUT A RING ON IT" GLOVE
Gloves are a huge statement piece this fall with elbow-length, crystal-encrusted, driving, and studded styles to choose from -- which is good news if you're like us and somehow always manage to lose one half of your glove pair. Buy a few pairs of your faves styles in different colors, then go 'head and wear mismatching pairs.
3. LADY GAGA'S HEADDRESSES & JEWELRY
Lady Gaga's looks were pure couture and when she wasn't bleeding, or hiding her face behind spooky red lace, they were actually pretty cool. This look in particular gave us the idea to layer a few cool chokers OVER our winter coats, and find a dramatic cloche to go with our cold weather look.
“Well, I, uh - I read in The New York Times this week that I'm an ice queen, I'm the Sun King, I'm an alien fleeing from District 9 and I'm a dominatrix. So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space.”
